The University of Colorado is looking to hire a full-time Professional Research Assistant to support research projects in health and labor economics at CU Denver and the Anschutz Medical campus. The position will entail close collaboration and assistance with all stages of research projects and gaining familiarity with data on health and labor outcomes. The candidate will be trained in all stages of how to execute a research idea. Specific tasks requested will involve acquiring, cleaning, and analyzing large survey and administrative datasets, conducting literature reviews, and creating tables and figures to communicate results to various audiences. Individuals with interests in the U.S. health care system and other U.S. policies as well as competencies in multitasking, working independently and excellence in written and oral communication may be particularly well-suited.

As a department we seek to develop and cultivate promising research from a historically underrepresented group in Economics, including, but not limited to: women, Black individuals, Hispanic individuals, Native peoples, individuals with disabilities, LGBTQIA++ individuals, first generation college students and individuals from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds.

This position provides tuition support for part-time study and the candidate will receive additional mentorship through Equitable Policy Research Fellowship run out of the Equitable Policy Research Lab, designed to expand the pipeline in Economics and increase representation and inclusion in the profession.

This position requires a two-year minimum commitment and is designed to prepare candidates for graduate school or more advanced research positions at the conclusion of the fellowship.

Position Emphasis:

This position is ideal for candidates looking to begin training for a career in research and preparing for top graduate programs in economics or related fields or to develop their data analytics and programming skills for positions in industry.

The position will be based at CU Denver and allows for professional development including attending research seminars, taking courses at CU Denver and the Anschutz medical campus, and meeting graduate students and faculty. There will also be an opportunity to co-create a mentoring relationship with Professors Chloe East and Lauren Nicholas. Additionally, remote work may be possible.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range has been established at $35,600 - $76,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Qualifications
 


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in economics, public policy, health policy, or related fields with equivalent quantitative methods training such as a minor or concentration at time of employment.
  • At least 1 year of experience with Stata.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with other statistical software besides Stata.
  • Prior exposure to econometric methods. This can include but is not limited to:
    • Strong grades in quantitative coursework (e.g. computer science, math, econ, stats)
    • Undergraduate research work on a thesis
    • Prior research assistant work

Competencies:

  • Interest in the U.S. healthcare system and inequality.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including strong attention to detail.
